Scholarships from SHRM National

SHRM Foundation offers many scholarships, all of which can be found on their website. Here are two which may be the most applicable for our members:

Undergraduate Scholarship Requirements

  • Available February 2019$2500 for a degree-seeking undergraduate program
  • Current SHRM member (professional or student)
  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate program
  • University is an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Degree program is HR-related (e.g. business, psychology, HR, org development, etc.)
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Graduate Scholarships Requirements

  • Available February 2019:  $5000 for a degree-seeking graduate program
  • Current SHRM member (professional or student)
  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking master or doctoral program OR accepted and ready to begin your studies within six months
  • University is an accredited institution of higher learning
  • Degree program is HR-related (e.g. business, psychology, HR, org development, etc.)
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, or if not yet enrolled, an undergrad GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

HR Southwest Conference

Student Sponsorship to Attend

Undergraduate and graduate level college students who carry at least six semester hours during the Fall 2019 semester and who have an active student membership in a local SHRM Student Chapter of with SHRM National may attend the conference for a discounted fee of $200. This includes: attendance at all general sessions, educational sessions, Monday and Tuesday receptions, Monday and Tuesday lunches and admission to the Marketplace.

Students may apply to have their $200 registration fee sponsored.  A limited number of sponsorship’s are available for qualified students and will be assigned in the order of request.  All sponsorship requests and qualification documents must be received by September 27, 2019.  Registration forms requesting sponsorship received after September 27, must include your $200 registration fee.

DallasHR Scholarships and Grants

Applications for 2019 closed on May 15th, 2019

DallasHR offers three annual awards:

Diane McClendon Scholarship  – recognizes human resource professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to the field of HR through the pursuit of professional achievement and community outreach.

Drew Young Scholarship – encourages undergraduate and graduate students preparing for work in the field of Human Resources Management. The application submission period has ended for 2018.

Pursuit of Excellence Award – recognizes HR professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to the field of Human Resources through the pursuit of academic and professional achievement.


Scholarships for UTD JSOM Students

Application Deadline: Fall Semester, May 20th and Spring Semester, December 5th.

JSOM has numerous donors who offer scholarships to business students based on need or merit. None of the scholarships offered are specific to human resources, but I highly recommend looking through to see which you might be eligible for.

Important Notes

  • Continuing students and incoming transfer students must apply for competitively awarded scholarships.
  • Periodically, other scholarships become available that may have different requirements.
  • Most of our scholarships cannot be combined with other scholarships awarded by the school.
  • Applications from new students who are enrolling for the first time and who meet the scholarship criteria will be reviewed as offers of admission are extended by UT Dallas. Students will be notified after the Scholarship Committee has finalized decisions.
  • Applications from continuing students will be reviewed and students will be notified of scholarship decisions after the established deadline for that semester. Students are usually notified whether or not they are granted an award by email to their UT Dallas email account.
  • Scholarship applicants are also notified of their status by email usually prior to the university’s payment deadline date for the new semester.
